‘Ali Radman

 

He was born in Tehran in 1973. He began learning music from early age and before attending school under supervision of his father, Mohammad Hasan Radman, who was a lecturer at the Conservatory of Music, and he learned music theory, introduction to the music of Iran and introduction to playing the piano.

While studying electronics, he improved his skills in the fields of composing, playing the piano and musicology of Iranian music under supervision of the lectures of his era in the Conservatory of Music and in 1991, as a member composer in the IRIB Child and Adolescent Group, where he composed some pieces, he became a member of UNIMA (International Puppetry Association). Subsequently, he studied music at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. Radman is a student of ‘Alireza Mashayekhi in composing.

Along with his composing tendencies, he studied Radif in Iranian music under supervision of Majid Kiayni and techniques of playing the piano under supervision of Raphael Minaskanian. He was awarded the country best ranks in two festivals of 1996 and 1997.

He studied the techniques of orchestra conducting under supervision of Edo Miĉiĉ, professor of Zagreb University and University of Wien, and in the meanwhile, he benefited from the teachings of Manuchehr Sahbai and Iraj Sahbai.

He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts as the top student and he benefited from other professors such as Olena Dyachkova, Tolib-khon Shakhidi, Ahad Pezhman, Hoseyn Dehlav, Shahrokh Khajenuri and Kambiz Roshanravan while studying composing in postgraduate level, and added to his experiences.

He joined Tehran Music Band and Iranian Orchestra for New Music in 1996 and he performed many concerts with this orchestra as the conductor and a music player.

From mid-1998, he started teaching at the Department of Music at the Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Tehran and then at Tehran Sureh University as a visiting professor. Also, he began his cooperation with the Contemporary Music Research Orchestra of the Faculty of Fine Arts as the conductor and a music player and he performed many research concerts.

Radman has had an active presence as a music player in most of the CDs published by Iranian Orchestra for New Music and he has performed as a pianist and orchestra conductor in several International Fadjr Festivals. Since 1994, he has provided his experiences in general and specialized music teaching to the students and the result of these experiences were compiling two pedagogical books, theses and researches in this field and also in this current year, he is publishing a specialized book on performing music in the twentieth century.

In 2008, he was assigned as a faculty member and the head of University of Shiraz Department. Ever since, he has designed and updated many curriculums and he has trained many students and composers. He was awarded the highest artistic rank of Iran in 2013.

He has different composing experiences in Iranian polyphonic music and he has experienced and introduced new styles in Iranian polyphonic music, and among them could be referred to Iranian audio clusters.

Two of his symphonic works entitled Poetics Symphonic Movement and Diorama Symphonic Movement have been recorded by Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Tchaikovsky Orchestra. In 2004, two of his works entitled Expression I and Expression II were performed in several composing festivals in Europe.

After holding several seminars, conferences and concerts in different composing styles, he was introduced as the best researcher in 2010, 2011 and 2016. He has held workshops entitled “Hearing Inquiries and Invitation to Hearing” in several cities in Iran.

In the field of university research, he has been active in designing the curriculum of specialized subjects in music from bachelor’s to master’s of composing and music playing. Radman is an active member of The Association of Iranian Contemporary Music Composers (ACIMC).

Several orchestral and vocal pieces of his have been performed in international scientific and artistic arenas and among them could be referred to the symphony of Identity in the international conference of Cultural Heritage and Identity Formation. Since 2011, he has been the referee of several international artistic conferences.

Radman has been the referee in the third and fourth festivals of Fars Ensembles and he was the scientific secretary of the festival in the eighth festival. In 2011, he was the referee of artistic qualification test for teaching music schools in south Iran.

Among his works, some of his albums have been published including: Statue Tales, Inscriptions, New Music in ran and Little Black Fish (released in Belgium).

In addition to holding several specialized seminars in on composing and auditory training, Radman has cooperated with several international composing festivals such as Bozar, Kiev, Brussels, Paris, H9anover and New York, and among them could be referred to his theoretical and practical composing projects in the form of workshops in Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. Also, he has held several concerts and training workshops with an approach towards Iranian polyphonic music. He is currently a member of ACIMC. He has cooperated with Iranian Orchestra for New Music as music player, composer and conductor and in 2011, he established Pars Contemporary Music Orchestra and he performed concerts with different contemporary music styles and he introduced his experiences based on the formation of auditory spectrums and inspired polyphonic structures in Iranian music.

Two of his musical pieces in electroacoustics are in performance and release in Hanover, Germany and New York, the U.S.
